Newborn Portrait - Baby Skin

The skin tone for this portrait should be delicate, since the baby is only about one week old. Yet, the skin colour is very red and that is proving to be a challenge. I am burnishing over the red with pale peach and white to blend further and tone down the colour.

At this stage, I'm still not certain of success with this project. The next session of work will be telling. What do you think?

  1. I think it looks great! The skin tones actually look really good!

  2. How much more work needs to be done on the skin at this stage? What you've done so far looks really good.

  4. I've peeled off the layers, today, with blu tak, Immy. It didn't look fine enough for a baby's complexion. I'm still experimenting, using a blending pencil to smooth out the colours so, hopefully, you'll see a difference with the next post:)

  5. Hi Vicky! I tried to leave you a comment earlier but this old laptop didn't seem to want to comply with me! I think the new portrait is coming along beautifully and I'm looking forward to watching it progress :)

  6. Thank you, Mary, for your support, as always:) I peeled off the layers for a second time, today - this portrait is giving me problems! I still haven't got to the stage of starting again, but it may need a fresh start with different pencils and a different surface - I'm not getting the fine detail that I'm looking for. Oh well, it'll get there, in the end!

    God bless you, Mary:)
